While trends in Dublin are flowering in the spring, here in our tropical country Autumn há already begun! And with the cold that comes ahead, we have to put away our lighters clothes, such as shorts, skirts, dresses… but do we really have to do that?
Overlays are a bit harder than just throwing on two itens of clothing and a coat to leave home, but they are not necessarily hard, and I love them not only for finding it better fitting in the feminine figure, but for the lightness it gives it when we walk! The heavy winter feeling can be smoothed this way.
By creating the layers ourselves, we have better notion of our own body, what we want to valorize, what we want to be like, how we want to be like. Shirt over shirt, long sleeves with short sleeves, coats with the shoulder showing, tights with shorts, skirts ou dresses, scarfs that can be arranged in every way possible, and one of my favorites: 7/8 tights over regular tights. All you need to know is the limit to the print shock, so your look is balanced.
The begging of the cold is also a good time for us to abuse necklaces and accessories. With darker or overlaid clothes, they definitely have a great compliment to offer. Abuse vivid colors accessories, as well as golden or silver, they will stick out and lighten your look. If possible, also bet on a more colorful clothing item in your overlay, be it the shoes or the coat, the tights… Don’t go out thinking that just because it’s cold you have to wear black and grey! Colors are all year long.
The Idea is to exercise! Try out a bunch of items from your wardrobe and see what looks good with what, sometimes when we put two pieces together we can have a lovely surprise, don’t be afraid! Balance the volume of your look, eg: If you’re wearing big or heavy coats, the best way to do it would be to leave your legs dry, by wearing tight or skinny pants, tights, legging…. And in this case, long coats or shirts are the best options.
Next time you open your wardrobe doors, try thinking of what can be overlaid, and just have fun doing it!
